The Diploma Supplement (DS) is a document that is given with higher education diploma, and gives standart information about the diploma holder’s study level, frame, content and situation.

Diploma Supplement has been accepted in a lot of countries’ national legislation after it was accepted in 1999. There are apparent developments in higher education since 1999 especially in combined degree programs and international or cross-border higher education. Presentation of National qualification framework in external qualty assurance and/or accreditation and European Higher Education Area takes part in other important development.

Qualification criteria are increasing all around the world, and countries are changing their qualification systems and education patterns. The increase in the number of people who have an education in a different country from where they live, causes a claim for fair recognition of their qualifications in other countries than they live.

Diploma Supplement, encourages transparency in higher education and making decisions in the fair and necessary frame about decisions of qualifications.

Diploma Supplement is not a cirriculum vitae document or cannot take its original qualification and does not guarantee recognition.49 European Countries that participated in the Bologna process agreed to give a free and in one of the well-used European languages Diploma Supplement to every graduated student in their own country automatically.

Diploma Supplement for Students

• A document that can be easily read in abroad
• A definite definition of academic career and qulifications that gained in education time
• An objective definition of achievements and qualifications
• Encouragement to employment and easy access to abroad education or easy career oppurtunities.

Diploma Supplement for High Education Institutions

• It makes it easier to academic and professional recognition, thus it increases sheerness in qualifications.
• It protects national/institutional autonomy as a mutual qualification that has been adopted in the entire Europe.
• It provides more understanding of content in another educational area.
• It increases the presence of the institution.
• It encourages the employment of graduates in national and international degrees.
